PHOTOGRAPHIC CHARTERS TO RECREATE PAST STEAM RAILWAY SCENES FOR YOUR CAMERA

Steam Recreations
photographic charters have now been running for 17 years. These charters were traditionally offered to accomplished steam photographers. However we are now offering charter events to a much wider audience to dispel the myth that they are a "closed shop" and not available to those not already in the know.

Our heritage railways are always keen to explore new ways of raising much needed revenue to keep the lines operating and also to provide their staff and volunteers with the chance to do something a little different. Photo charters give them the chance to showcase restorations of goods wagons and other historic vehicles that are unsuitable for normal public service use.

By joining a Steam Recreations charter you are not only enjoying a day out photographing steam but are contributing towards keeping the heritage line visited running. Have a look at our forthcoming charter events and if you want to book a place either do so on line via our secure "Paypal" on-line payment method or by sending a booking form and cheque in the post together with 2 stamped addressed envelopes. Payment for charters must be made in advance. I look forward to welcoming you onto a Steam Recreations event in the near future.

TERMS & CONDITIONS These photographic charters are private events so as to avoid having “gate crashers” getting a free look in and possibly getting in your way please refer any enquiries to us. Participants must comply with the requests of Steam Recreations and railway officials during the charter in the interests of safety and other participants, not trespass on adjacent property without prior permission and provide and wear an orange high visibility vest. Steam Recreations its organisers or the host railways cannot be held responsible or liable for any injury, loss of life, loss or damage to equipment however caused through joining this event. Cancellations cannot be accepted under any circumstances less than two weeks before the charter is due to run. If you need to cancel prior to this for any reason please contact us.

EDWARD THE BLUE ENGINE

GREAT CENTRAL RAILWAY

FULLY BOOKED

POSTPONED - NEW DATE TO BE ADVISED. Due to problems with No. 6023. Expected to be in Autumn 2012. The date shown on this page is ficticious due to limitations on the websites programming!

I'm very pleased to now be able to offer you the opportunity to photograph the BR Blue KING No. 6023 KING EDWARD 11 on appropriate Red/Cream coaches on the Great Central Railway. The railway says it will have 7/8 such vehicles available. The carriages will carry appropriate roof boards for crack Western Region expresses that Kings worked in the early 1950's.

The charter will commence at 08.00 hrs and run throughout the day and include a nightshoot at Loughborough finishing at 19.30 hrs. Breakfast will be available at Loughborough from 07.00 hrs.

I have chosen Tuesday as I know a number of you will want to head off to Scotland afterwards for the Scottish bash which is expected to be on 15th/16th Oct, as I will.

Please remember that this is likely to be a unique opportunity of pairing the engine in Blue livery with correct height fittings and red/cream stock on double track. If it happens to run on the mainline with a red/cream set it will have the cut down chimney and cab roof etc.

To reflect the high coal consumption and running costs of this engine the Cost for this charter will be £70.00 per head.

THE TORBAY MANOR - Extra day

Thursday, 15th March 2012

TORBAY & DARTMOUTH RAILWAY

FULLY BOOKED

UPDATE 20.01.12 - The engine is currently still without its boiler whilst repairs are ongoing. The railway and I are still hopeful that the charters can go ahead on the new dates in March advised a short while back, but this cannot of course be guaranteed until the engine is back together and in full working order. I will advise as soon as I know more.

I am pleased to be able to confirm a 3rd day with No. 7827 at Torbay due to a waiting list.

The locomotive will be BR Black liveried Manor No. 7827 Lydham Manor hauling a freight made up of various engineers and other wagons that the railway has available (more than you would think!). There will be two brake vans and participants will be able to travel on the train to the various locations for run pasts. As the railway will not be running service trains on these dates the charter will have the whole line available throughout the day. The charter will commence at Paignton at 08.00 hrs.

The loco will initially face towards Kingswear for shots to be taken from the seaward/east side of the line mainly between Goodrington and Churston and then the train will proceed to Kingswear for run round and return to Paignton for a short break. During the day the engine will be turned to face north so that run pasts can be carried out alongside the River Dart near Britannia Crossing and between Churston and Goodrington (downhill) with the engine facing north and the sea behind the train.

Cost for this charter will be £55.00 per head.

I am very pleased to be able to announce that I have completed negotiations for the very first photo charter on the Torbay & Dartmouth Railway in Devon.

On Day 1 the loco will initially face towards Kingswear for shots to be taken from the seaward/east side of the line mainly between Goodrington and Churston and then the train will proceed to Kingswear for run round and return to Paignton for a short break. During the day the engine will be turned to face north so that run pasts can be carried out alongside the River Dart near Britannia Crossing and between Churston and Goodrington (downhill) with the engine facing north and the sea behind the train. For day 2 the loco will remain facing north and will again commence at 06.00 hrs and use the section of line between Churston and Goodrington but with our locations being on the opposite (east) side of the line. The engine will be turned once again to face south so that we can get shots with the sea behind the train up grade in the afternoon. This plan should provide us with plenty of different opportunities over the two days.

PRIORTY WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE BOOKING BOTH DAYS. Cost for this charter will be £110.00 per head.

COAL TANK RETURNS

Tuesday, 21st February 2012

Keighley & Worth Valley Railway

TUESDAY ONLY - FULLY BOOKED

My first charter offering for 2012 utilises LNWR design Coal Tank No. 58926 at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

Geoff Silcock and myself have been in discussion with the engines custodians, Bahamas Loco Group, to get the sole surviving (National Trust owned) LNWR Coal Tank turned out from overhaul in BR Black livery as No. 58926 for a short while. These discussions were successful, with grateful thanks to John Hillier, and the engine will appear in its new livery around February for the lines winter gala and our charters. The engine will then be changed to its LMS period identity before going into its more familiar LNWR livery.

We have now agreed with the KWVR that 4 days of charters will take place between Monday 20th and Thursday 23rd February 2012.

I am therefore able to announce my charters on Monday 20th February for No. 58926 on 2 suburban coaches and Tuesday 21st February on a goods. Both days will commence at Haworth at 08.00 hrs and continue through the day with full line access and the possibility of turning the engine at Keighley to provide some unusual shots on the line. The charter will continue until between 16.00 – 17.00 hrs and will be followed by a short night-shoot on Monday only.

The cost of this charter is £65.00 per head/per day or £124.00 for both days (saving £6). Geoff will be offering his two days (Weds 22nd & Thurs 23rd) at the same price with the discount allowable so you can save £12 if you decide to book all 4 days for “insurance”. The additional cost of this charter over most others allows for a donation to the Bahamas loco group for allowing the engine to be turned out in BR livery and will go towards the overhaul of Jubilee No. 45596 Bahamas.

Cost for this charter will be £65.00 per head.
