It won't be long now before the Autumn colours start to appear, but let's enjoy a bit of late summer sunshine this weekend first.
This was Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire back in 2015 with a quite wonderful display to view on what I remember was a very dull and dark afternoon, but with my tripod employed and slow exposures in the still dank conditions the images were actually quite acceptable with good colours displayed. Before heading home from Northumberland we made an extra overnight stop in the Yorkshire Dales in order to cover "The Waverley" railtour over the Settle to Carlisle line the following day as it was originally booked for the BR Green Jubilee 45596 "Bahamas" which was an appealing prospect given the good forecast. In the event the loco was changed to Merchant Navy No. 35018 "British India Line" and added to at Hellifield by Royal Scot No. 46115 "Scots Guardsman". The shunting required to add the 'Scot caused some delays and the train passed my chosen location at Langcliffe, Settle around 40 mins late, which unfortunately had meant the light angle had deteriorated from what it had been if the train were on time. On the plus side at least the sun was out from behind the ever increasing clouds. Oh photographing mainline steam - such a risky game!
