I'm pleased to announce that I am giving a presentation and digital slide show to Hanham & Kingswood Photo Club, Hanham, Bristol, on Wednesday evening 27th March, starting at 7.30pm. The club meets at Hanham Methodist Church Hall, Chapel Road, Hanham, Bristol, BS15 8SD. I'm sure they would welcome guests along (for a small fee) if you are in the area and fancy a pleasant evening out viewing my images from around the UK. I'll be giving information about my methods and equipment used to create my the images. The accompanying picture features Burrow Mump, Somerset Levels, on a cold January morning at sunrise, note the couple stood in the archway witnessing the spectacle. Prints are available of this image from my website at; www.donbishop.co.uk/print/a-couple-looking-out-across-the-somerset-levels-at-the-sunrise-at-burro... #burrowmump #burrowbridge #somersetlevels #somerset #visitsomerset #somersetlife #winter #frost #sunrise #landscapephotography #capturingbritain #beautifulbritain #prints #DronePhotography #aerial #mavic

The generally damp conditions just goes on, but to be fair as a write this the sun is actually shinning here in Somerset, it hasn't done very much recently. Maybe Spring is actually around the corner and maybe some more opportunities to get out and do some landscape photography will present themselves, they have been distinctly lacking and it then becomes hard to find the motivation. Another element of spring arriving means that we will start to attend some shows and events with our display of my images. First up is the Statfold Barn Model Railway Show, near Tamworth, Staffs on 13th & 14th April, a great place to visit and enjoy the narrow gauge trains and displays plus lots of models railways. Anyway, to celebrate the official beginning of spring and look towards some opportunities I have planned, here is a spring time shot from the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides on an April evening with a stiff wind stirring things up across the Sound of Taransay. The clouds just seem to "fit together". I achieved this image by using my Lee Filters 3 stop ND, Polariser & ND Graduated filters on a wide angle (20mm) lens for 2.5secs @ f16, waiting until a wave came in and opening the shutter as it washed back towards the open sea, causing the streaks of water to appear in the sand. You can have great fun trying to create images in these kind of conditions. Hope you like the effect. The website has been upgraded slightly and now includes an opportunity for our customers and followers to put reviews of my work etc., it would be appreciated if you could take the time to do so. Last week I visited the Vale of Rheidol Railway at Aberystwyth in West Wales for a charter organised by David Williams. The charter used V of R 2-6-2T No. 8, which is currently in BR Black livery with a nicely matched set of red/cream carriages. The weather did what it so often does in Wales and it was very wet, particularly on the drive through what is often a very scenic mid Wales on my way to the venue the day before. The full on cloud and damp was certainly challenging for good images, but I came away with some quite acceptable results with well saturated colours in the dull light, and I have converted some images to Black & White, as you'll see in this small selection. Its been a tricky period for getting good images with all the rain. Have we finally seen the worst of it and are coming into spring I wonder? #valeofrheidolrailway #aberystwyth #wales #visitwales #narrowgauge #prints #heritage #westernregion #greatwestern #STEAM #GWR #leefilters #canon #canoneos
