The West Somerset Railway has the services of BR Black Manor No. 7822 “Foxcote Manor” throughout 2018. The opportunity is therefore being taken to run a photo charter with a Cambrian Coast theme.
My earlier attempt at a charter with the loco, in November 2017, was thwarted when the loco developed a brake fault a few days before the charter was due to run. I have now rearranged this charter to run on Friday 16th February 2018, and having transferred the existing bookings I have a small number of places available. We will use the railways red/cream coaches to recreate the look and feel of the Cambrian lines in the 1950’s.
The charter will commence at Bishops Lydeard at 08.00hrs and run between there and Williton. We will have exclusive use of the Bishops Lydeard to Williton section throughout the day, the other half of the line is in use by a driver experience working. The loco will be facing south, smokebox towards Taunton, where the best opportunities exist for the morning session. We will pause for a short lunch break at Bishops Lydeard, and then run down to Norton Fitzwarren to turn the loco on the triangle and then, facing North, proceed back towards Williton with stops at a number of locations for run-pasts. The day will finish around 17.30 – 18.00hrs.
Parking is available at Bishops Lydeard, and there is plenty of accommodation available in the area, including 3 Premier Inn’s, Travelodge and Holiday Inn in Taunton. It is also planned to have the station cafe/shop open for tea/coffee and bacon rolls at 07.00hrs.
Cost for the day is £79.00 (incl VAT) per head, with just 4 places still being available, to reflect the 40+ miles for the day.
