Great Central Railway
BR lined Black Hall 4-6-0 No. 4953 “Pitchford Hall” with red/cream stock.
The recently overhauled BR Black Hall is making a further visit to the Great Central Railway early in 2020. This has presented an ideal opportunity to record the loco on a nicely matched red/cream passenger train in what will hopefully be crisp winter conditions – surely we’ll get some of this soon! Therefore I am pleased to be able to offer such a day on Tuesday 4th February.
I have now requested that the loco is facing Northbound for the morning session on this charter, it will however have to be turned to face the more traditional southbound for the afternoon. This is purely to enable us to get some different shots to those normally obtained on charters at the GCR in mid-winter, with interesting back lighting. This will also give us a chance of a very nice glint shot first thing in the morning at Swithland viaducts, if the weather plays ball. For this reason the charter will commence at Loughborough at 06.45hrs and proceed to the “Rabbit Bridge” area where we will alight and the train will proceed to Swithland loops to run round, with the aim of being back with us for run pasts to commence as the sun rises around 07.45hrs. We will then work in this and the Swithland sidings area through the morning, and also around Quorn station. The loco will then be turned and return to Loughborough for crew change/water etc. whilst we take a short break for late breakfast/lunch. The afternoon will then consist of running the loco & train southbound with locations planned for Quorn, Kinchley Lane and Swithland before we finish.
The train formation is still planned to be the red/cream passenger stock.
Cost for the day is £85.00 per head with 35 places being available.
