“Western Goods” – Great Central Railway
Monday 22nd October 2018
BR lined green Modified Hall No. 6990 “Witherslack Hall” with various mixed goods rakes.
My first charter at the Great Central since 6023 in March 2013! All that has gone on in between times is water under the bridge, and I’m pleased that we are able to return to this popular line for some mainline style charters.
It is proposed to start from Swithland sidings around 08.00hrs. There is parking space available and I also plan for the yard gates to be opened for our arrival. We will have exclusive use of the line throughout the day with the charter finishing around 5.30pm. I plan to use a variety of goods formations during the day including the mixed goods, box vans and mineral wagons and am working on the plans to give a good train length and a variety of shots for us all. Most of the day will spent in the area between Swithland and Kinchley Lane. This will enable to us to photograph this classic Western Region formation with WR signals as a backdrop to many shots. Lunch will be taken in this area, although I will also arrange for those who wish to to go to Quorn cafe for lunch whilst the engine returns to Loughborough for crew change and water. This should save a lot of photography time and hopefully avoid the GCR syndrome of a sunny lunch break at Loughborough!
Cost for the day is £79.00 per head with 35 places being available. From comments made at the lineside this one could be popular, so please be quick if you want to join the charter and avoid disappointment.
