West Somerset Railway
BR Standard locos on appropriate liveried passenger stock & goods on the WSR.
Sadly all three charters have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 virus issues and the resulting cancellation of the Spring gala.
For this years Spring gala the WSR Gala Planning Team have chosen to have three BR Standard locos as guests, 9F No. 92134 (Courtesy of the Self family and based at the NYMR), Std 4 2-6-0 No. 76084 (Courtesy of the 76084 Locomotive Company and the North Norfolk Railway) and Std 2 2-6-0 No. 78018 (courtesy of Loughborough Standard Locomotives Group and the Great Central Railway). With the changes to the WSR’s timetables in 2020 there is an opportunity to run three days of charters on this scenic line using these visiting locomotives. These are immediately after the gala which is between Thursday 23rd and Sunday 26th April.
Day 1 (Monday 27th) will use the single chimney 9F No. 92134 on a rake of 6/7 or 8 coaches. Day 2 is the Std 2 2-6-0 No. 78018 on a goods train and day 3 will use No. 78018 on 3 coach local train.
Rolling stock will be a set of Maroon and/or BR Red/Cream passenger stock, how many in which livery will depend on the progress of repainting some vehicles into BR Maroon which is ongoing this winter, for the Monday and a goods rake for Tuesday. The passenger set for the 78xxx on the Wednesday will be reduced to 3 coaches.
The charters will start at Bishops Lydeard station at 08.00hrs, please plan to arrive by 07.30hrs so that we can carry out the required safety brief. The station cafe will be open serving teas/coffees and bacon rolls to start your day. We will then proceed tender first to Williton, run round and commence our photography back towards Bishops Lydeard, loco facing south, stopping at various locations along the way. A short lunch break/crew change and water will then take place (cafe & shop planned to be open) before we proceed up to Norton Fitzwarren to turn the loco on the triangle and then set off back down the line towards Williton with the loco facing north, stopping at various locations for runpasts of course. The charter is expected to finish between 17.30 – 18.00hrs.
Cost for each day is £85.00 per head , or £160.00 for two days.
Please select the option that suits your requirements.
