Description
Thursday 2nd May.
BR Green Modified Hall No. 6990 “Witherslack Hall” with a maroon passenger set on the West Somerset Railway.
I have agreed with the WSR that a photo charter will operate with the visiting Modified Hall No. 6990, courtesy of the Great Central Railway, with a set of maroon coaches (possibly also two choc/cream coaches if a shunt can be arranged after we finish). This is the first Hall to run on the WSR for some years (since 2018) due to temporally imposed weight limits.
I do of course appreciate that this is short notice, but the loco was not originally booked to attend the event, but has arrived to cover for another unavailable loco (no, not the Grange), so was not an option when I put the charter plan together initially.
The charter will commence at Bishops Lydeard at 08.00hrs and work between there and Williton through the day. In order provide the best photo opportunities and make good use of the light available in May, I am planning to run southbound in the morning, and after turning the loco at Norton Fitzwarren, we will cover northbound locations in the afternoon. A short lunch break is planned at Bishops Lydeard, where it is planned that the the cafe will also be open.
The charter will run the day before the WSR’s spring steam gala, where at least 7 locos will be running, with most smokebox leading, so further photo opportunities are available over the following days if you decide to stay on for some extra days.
The WSR and its surrounding countryside will be looking great with the fresh spring colours becoming established by this date. There has been some extensive lineside work carried out this winter so the line is looking very tidy.
The charter is expected to finish around 17.30 – 18.00hrs.
